About
More than a Local Company, We’re Leaders in Our Field
Here at K Johnson Construction, we’re proud to be family-owned and operated, specializing in masonry and commercial concrete, including tilt-up. Beyond that, we’re innovators—moving our industry forward by forging new paths for construction, bringing new methodologies to our longstanding profession, and keeping customer satisfaction as a mainstay in all we do.
Since 1987 we’ve stayed true to our core values of honesty, quality, and innovation. Always on the cutting edge of what’s next, our team is consistently honed in on the latest technology and advancements that can create even greater value for our customers. Our vision is to always bring home the best and brightest solutions that outshine the competition.
Over the years, our greatest source of inspiration has been watching our community connections succeed as a result of our hard work and commitment to quality. Though our builds are big, we are always focused on the details to ensure the jobs we do are done to their best possibly ability.
About Kevin: Growing up in Mankato, Kevin’s roots grow deep in construction industry. His father, Marlin Johnson owned a small concrete and masonry company that Kevin and his two brothers would work at in the summers. Marlin would even pull the kids out of school to go work on a jobsite – as he felt their time was better spent learning on the job!
After graduating from Mankato West, Kevin would move to the Central Minnesota Region in the early 1980’s where he would work smaller residential construction jobs until finally incorporating K. Johnson Construction in 1987. The company would remain relatively small until the first “big job” at Becker High School in the early 90’s – since then, we’ve never looked back.
The reach of work throughout the years from K. Johnson spans from Light Commercial, Retail, Healthcare, Educational and Industrial Facilities. Kevin is most proud of the quality of work and the lasting image that our teams leave, and strives for perfection from the beginning foundations, all the way to the final brick being laid.
While he is proud of every project that is completed, he is most impressed with the St. Cloud Hospital Addition – which helped the company through the Great Recession of 2008. The project spanned over 2 years and well over a ½ million brick were installed on the facility. This project is a testament of K. Johnson Constructions ability to weather the tough times, and produce a beautiful looking facility that the public will benefit from.
As President and CEO, Kevin spends his days meeting with different business owners, clients and architects on the future of the construction industry. He’s also involved heavily within the St. Cloud Chamber of Commerce, as well as his other companies, Minnesota Concrete Products, and 539 Properties.
Kevin and his wife, Julie, reside in Rice with the farm animals and their beloved dog, Merle.
About Erik: While Erik’s path is less “trailblazing” in nature compared to Kevin’s – he’s always found himself surrounded in the construction industry. Growing up in Sauk Rapids, Erik worked on different concrete and masonry crews in the summers of high school. After graduation, he attended Gustavus Adolphus College where he played Division III Collegiate hockey from 2013 through 2017.
After college, he worked for a couple of different companies before finding himself back in the company business by joining K. Johnson Construction in 2020. Now, as Vice President, Erik spends his days working through new project opportunities and assisting as a project manager in the office. He also finds his time looking into the technological advancements of construction, as well as researching into new business opportunities to take K. Johnson Construction into the future.
Erik is most proud of the hard work and efforts that all of the construction team puts in to making a job successful, and understands that the workers that do the job are the key piece to making the company successful.
Erik and his wife, Tessa, reside in Otsego, MN.
Safety
For over 35 years, safety has been at the heart of everything we do. We continuously set the bar high for all trades on-site when it comes to proper PPE gear, silica exposure mitigation and general workplace hazard safety. Our team of foreman’s are required to continuously update their OSHA30 Certification, and will always be on the lookout for safety – no matter the project. We pride ourselves on having one of the lowest EMR MOD ratings across the construction industry, and will never compromise safety for the sake of getting the job done.
